Grade, construction and sizing questions answered by phone

What to have at hand

The hot and cold fluids, flow rates, inlet and outlet temperatures on at least three of the four ends, and the pressure each side will see. For corrosion questions, the chloride level, pH and maximum temperature of each stream decide the grade faster than anything else. For a replacement, the nameplate and connection sizes let us match the thermal duty and footprint without guessing.

Sanitary duty adds the required finish, the connection style and whether the unit must drain dry and survive CIP and SIP cycles. None of this needs to be complete before you call; it needs to be honest.

When we answer

Phones are answered 8am to 5pm Pacific, Monday to Friday; e-mail is normally answered the next business day, and a message that includes the fluids and temperatures usually gets a sizing question or a preliminary recommendation in the first reply rather than a request for more information.

Project engineers working to a submittal date should say so; a budget figure and a preliminary drawing can move ahead of the full calculation when the schedule needs it.
